As promized yesterday , Wikia search system is available online. For now, this search engine is only alpha version and available at the following adress : http://alpha.search.wikia.com. First impressions are a bit dull.
Wikia system is based on visitor evaluation grid (star rating). You have the choice to rank results from 1 to 5 according to the matching of the results according to your request. In order to vote / rank, you need to register (for free).

With this new online search, solution, online encyclopedia founder wishes to do some concurence to some search engine giants such as Yahoo or Google, and to extend its parket during this new year.
Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia founder stated in a Washington Post interview that Wikia should be onlined from January 7th. Wikia is to be a totally opensource search engine.
Amongst originalities given by this new search technologies, one can notice the search for applications, and also algorythms.
According to Wales, Wikia is to be equipped with a web crawler, or a spider, a piece of software designed to collect data across web pages and making an index out of them.
Finally, this project will use numerous technologies that will allow users to find informations and data more easily across the web. But this new engine will also strengthen communitary spirit generally associated with wikipedia , online encyclopedia.

Google and other search engines bots are an extremely difficult to trap and catch specie. They continuously crawl around websites and it would be of extreme interest to catch one inside a website for studying purposes only.
The authors of this study propose a high technology method based on a quantic trap for catching and some digital tele-bait for attracting these bots.
